Hello! I’m David Barrows – a.k.a. dB – musician, performing artist, producer, activist and software developer. I’m originally from L.A., lived in the San Francisco bay area for many years, now living in London. Welcome.

My main musical instrument is the saxophone – alto, soprano, tenor and baritone, as well as a bit of flute and piano. I’m a composer and digital media creator; I write songs and make music videos in my home studio, produce and release that material on my independent label Hounds of Renown Records, and perform it with a solo act using laptop, vocals, saxophones and electronic wind instrument.

I’ve been making music for several decades now and it’s connected me with a lot of interesting people and places. I feel very fortunate to have collaborated with extraordinary musicians and great bands, toured the Americas and Europe, studied with famous people, composed music for theatre, film, television and video games, released a number of albums on my own label, and appeared as a sideman on many records.

I play regularly with the Spanner Big Band at the Three Compasses in Hornsey, North London, every other Wednesday, and every couple months at the Jamboree in King’s Cross. I’ve also got quite into Brazilian choro music, am working on learning some tunes from that vast repertoire, and I attend choro jams regularly every other Monday at the “Choro East Roda” at the Three Colts Tavern in Bethnal Green.

In early 2019 I released a concept album – “The Species That Knew Too Much” – I wrote 10 songs with words, featuring a great band of London session musicians with top-notch pro singers, as well as saxophone work and even a bit of rapping from myself. I’m proud of this record and I hope you’ll check it out. It’s available on Spotify, Apple Music, CD Baby etc – released May 1st 2019. Or click “Buy Now” above and I’ll ship you a physical CD.

Finally I’d like to say I’m available for saxophone session work, and can provide music for sync deals. Please contact me to talk about your project. I also teach saxophone and music theory. Let me know if you’re interested.

Thanks again for stopping by here, I hope you enjoy the site, I’ve tried to simplify a bit and it’s always a work in progress. Please consider following me on Spotify, connect with me on social media, or contact me. I’d be interested to hear from you.

Best wishes, dB (David Barrows).
